08-09 Outlook for the New England Patriots

Posted on: April 12, 2008 1:57 pm

With the seconds windidng down in the Super Bowl Brady launched up a pass downfield and it was swatted down.  Thats when i knew it was over.  Me and my dad got up and started our long walk out of the stadium, with chants of 18-1 coming all around us.  That is how the 07 season ended.  Now its time for a new season, new hope for that 4th super bowl ring.

This off-season we have lost some key members of our defense, most notably Asante Samuel.  But like always Bill Belichiek is regrouping the troups.  He is adding some older talent, smart players and veteran players that know what they are doing.  So far to help tape up our secondary he has added Fernando Bryant and Jason Webster at corner.  These might not be two marque players but they are two good role players.

To add to the addition of thse two corners, we have resigned Tedy Bruschi, who might be aging but will keep our defense lookin good with some more veteran leadership.  A set back is the loss of Rosevelt Colvin, when Colvin was lost for the season our defense started to look horrible.  Even though this is a huge setback for the Pat's D, one positive is it opened up a little cap room for the Pats.

Our offense is still lookin very good this season.  Our main loss is Donte Stallworth, who left to the Browns.  Donte Stallworth gave us a lot of speed and was amazing after the catch.  But we resigned Randy Moss, which will keep our receving coor in tip top shape, and it also keeps Tom Brady happy.  We also resigned Jabar Gaffney.  Gaffney was a very good player in our offense and showed signifigant improvment throughout the year.  We also still have Wes Welker, who led the league in receptions last year with 112 receptions.

I think the Patriots are set up for a pretty good season.  I think we have two other contenders in the AFC East, the Jets and the Bills.  The Jets are the team that scares me the most because of there major offseasons addition, but my prediction is for the Pats to win the AFC East.  We have a weak out of Division Schedule, Which includes such powers as the Rams, 49ers, Cardinals, Raiders, Broncos, Chiefs.  The only real hard teams we have to play though are the Colts, Chargers, and Sehawks.  I think best case senario is 15-1, worst case 11-5.
